100 Bucs Service Society

In the Fall of 1960, a faculty committee
at Balboa High recommended establishment of a service society to replace the Boys and Girls Council. As a result Mr. Philip Ryan, S.A. sponsor, began the 100
Bucs Service Society in the Spring of 1961. Mr. Nick Kafkas became sponsor of the group in the Fall of 1961.

Today, Balboa's only student control
organization, the 100 Bucs, continues to
patrol during rallies and lunch. Those
who request membership petition toward the end of the term and a rating
committee selects the most qualified petitioners for membership. Petitioners are rated for their participation in school and class activities, their service to the
school, citizenship, and their scholastic
standing. With these qualifications the
members have proven dependable and
responsible.

One thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.
